Utah National Guard
Aug. 27, 2019
The Utah National Guard and what does it consist of? If they wear US Army and US Air Force uniforms, why is their Commander in Chief the Governor and not the President? We used to call them Weekend Warriors and they were known more for their card games and beer drinking than being able to support our military in combat. The last 30 years of domestic and international crises has changed the nature and role of your National Guard in its role in the state and in support of our military. COL Paul Peters, the Operations Officer for the Utah Army National Guard, will give us glimpse into what your Utah National Guard consists of today, what their last 20 years have been about and how they are still being heavily used around the world to support any and all military operations, as well as advance military and diplomatic relations with the country of Morocco. |

Make a Wish Foundation
Nov. 05, 2019
When life-changing wishes are granted, a wish effect occurs. The wish allows children battling critical illnesses to build the hope and strength they need to fight harder and see the impossible become possible. Research shows wishes can give these children a higher chance of survival. And, it’s why health professionals often use a wish as part of their treatment plan, because wishes can build compliance with care and potentially give their patients a better chance of reducing time spent in the hospital. There is nothing more powerful than a child's wish – that's the wish effect. |

Utah Politics: The Elephant in the Room
Nov. 12, 2019
From the tempestuous fight for statehood to the evolution of Utah voters from Democrats to Republicans, Rod Decker analyzes the intersection of politics and faith in the complex political culture of modern Utah. Beginning with the state’s roots as a communal theocracy, Utah Politics deftly examines how Mormon morality influenced and continues to shape conflicts on both the local and federal levels. Whether determining the role nuclear fallout played in causing cancer epidemics throughout the state or the influence of Mormon lobbyists, Decker demonstrates how the rose that blossomed in the desert was sometimes fertilized by conspiracy, debate, and political machination. Some themes reoccur: governors become popular by fighting federal oversight—signaling a lingering distrust that Washington could alter the Mormon way of life—and liberals use the court system to circumvent conservative legislatures who see public morality as a defining feature of government. |
